Rootlesion nematode (English name)

Japanese: ネグサレセンチュウ - ねぐされせんちゅう(英語表記)rootlesion nematode
Rootlesion nematode (English name)

A general term for a genus in the class Nematoda of the phylum Pectinifera. A group of important plant parasitic nematodes distributed widely around the world, both males and females are slender with body lengths of 0.5-0.8 mm. They have long been known as meadow nematodes that cause damage to pasture grasses. The nematodes move within the root tissue, laying eggs and multiplying, causing root necrosis and collapse, and causing the plant to wither and die. The plants that the nematodes damage (host range) are wide, with noticeable damage being caused to potato tubers, sweet potatoes, taro, chrysanthemums, strawberries, peaches, tea, and cedar seedlings. Of the nearly 50 species, about 10 other species are known in Japan, including P. penetrans , which is widely distributed north of the Kanto region, P. coffeae , which is distributed south of the Kanto region, and P. loosi , which is distributed in tea-growing areas.
