Its correct name is Jardin du Roi, or Royal Botanical Garden. After the French Revolution it became the National Museum of Natural History, where it remains to this day. It is also called the Botanical Garden of Paris, but it also has a zoo and a large collection of mineral and animal specimens, including fish and shellfish, and is also an academic research institution. In 1616, G. de La Brosse (c. 1586-1641), personal physician to King Louis XIII of France, proposed its construction, and in 1626, a royal decree was issued to establish the garden. In 1633, land was obtained in the southeast of Paris, and in 1635, the organization was established by royal decree, and the garden opened in 1640.
