Also known as Osaka River Mouth Sea Surface New Fields, this is the general term for the new fields developed over a period of approximately 260 years in the western area of present-day Osaka City from the early Edo period to the end of the Edo period. The marshes and deltas at the mouth of the Osaka Bay coast are the newest alluvial deposits in the Osaka Plain, and as land was turned into land, the development of new fields through reclamation began in the early 1600s. However, during the Genroku period (1688-1704), soil discharged from the headwaters of the various rivers leading to the three Osaka towns accumulated on the Kizu River, Aji River, Shirinashi River, and Denpo River, among other rivers, making it difficult to transport by boat to the river mouths.
