A village in Motosu County, western Gifu Prefecture. Population 2,453 (1995). A mountain village in the upper reaches of the Neo River, a tributary of the Ibi River. Most of the village is occupied by the Mino Echizen Mountains, with Nogo Hakusan (Gongenyama) as its main peak, and there is little lowland, with settlements and cultivated land scattered throughout the river basin. The main settlement is Tarumi. National Route 157 runs through the center of the village along the Neo River, crossing Nukumi Pass and connecting to Fukui Prefecture. Agriculture and forestry are the main industries, but there are also many small-scale farmers. The Neodani Fault (Tokuten), which was created during the 1891 Nobi earthquake, caused a vertical displacement of 6m at Midori in the village, and traces of this fault still remain today.
