Swamp radish - Swamp radish

Japanese: ヌマダイコン - ぬまだいこん

A perennial herb of the Asteraceae family (illustration) that grows in wet grasslands and ditches. The rhizome is well developed, and the stems grow in clusters, reaching a height of about 1m. The leaves are ovate or ovate-oblong, with 1-6cm petioles, and grow opposite each other. The flowering season is from September to November. All the flowers are bisexual tubular flower heads, small (about 6mm in diameter when in bloom), and grow in sparse corymbs. The corolla is white, 2.5mm long, and has glandular hairs on the narrow tube at the bottom. Often all the florets in one flower head are attached together by these glandular hairs.

湿った草地や溝に生えるキク科の多年草（イラスト）。根茎がよく発達し，茎は多数が群がって立ち，高さ1mくらいとなる。葉は卵形または卵状長楕円形，1～6cmの葉柄があって対生する。花期は9～11月。花はすべて両性の筒状花からなる頭花で，開花時の径が約6mmと小さく，まばらな散房状につく。花冠は白色で，長さ2.5mm，下部の狭筒部には腺毛がある。この腺毛によって，1頭花内の小花はすべてくっついていることが多い。
