Numagaya - Numagaya

Japanese: ヌマガヤ - ぬまがや

A perennial grass of the grass family (illustration) that grows in fields and mountain wetlands. It is a large, stiff grass with a short rhizome without runners, and grows in a clump, often in colonies. The stem is 60-120 cm tall, erect, somewhat thin but stiff, and extends long from the base where the leaves are attached, without nodes to the inflorescence. There are several leaves at the base of the stem, basal or slightly basal, stiff, slightly erect, long and linear, reaching a length of about 50 cm and a width of 1 cm, with the pale upper surface twisting partway to become the lower leaf that faces downward, and the underside is dark green.
