Potatoes

Japanese: いもご
Potatoes

...It is a clay mineral named by Yoshinaga Naganori and Aomine Shigenori (1962), and was named after the glassy volcanic ash soil called "Imogo" in Kyushu that was isolated and confirmed. Chemically, it is a hydrate (SiO 2 ·Al 2 O 3 ·2.5H 2 O) in which silica and alumina are bonded in a fixed ratio of 1. ...

From [Volcanic Ash Soil]

...The new unweathered pumice layer that erupted from Sakurajima is called "Bora" and is found just below the surface of the soil, making it a hindrance to deep-rooted crops such as Sakurajima radishes. The weathered glassy volcanic ash that erupted over a wide area from the Kikai Caldera off the coast of Kagoshima is called "Akahoya" in southern Kyushu and "Imogo" in Kumamoto. These soil layers appear at various depths below the surface, but deeper soil layers are increasingly being exposed to the surface due to large-scale land alteration, and their fertility and soil engineering properties have often come into question. ...

From [Special Soil]

…It refers to special volcanic deposits such as Shirasu (volcanic deposits of plagioclase trachyte found in southern Kyushu), Bora (colloquial name for pumice found in southern Kyushu), Kora (slightly consolidated volcanic gravel found at the southern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture), Masa (volcanic gravel around Mount Fuji), Akahoya, Onji, Imogo, and other volcanic ash layers, as well as weathered granite soils and other soils that are particularly susceptible to erosion. They are found mainly in Kyushu, Shikoku, and Chugoku, but are particularly widespread in the southern Kyushu region. Special soil areas are vulnerable to erosion, are subject to extremely severe damage during heavy rains, and have low agricultural productivity, but agricultural productivity has improved significantly by removing or crushing these soils. …
