An evergreen perennial fern of the Polypodiaceae family found in warm areas west of Chiba Prefecture, usually growing on rocks or tree trunks. The rhizome is thin and densely covered with reddish-brown membranous scales. The leaves are 10-40 cm long and soft and leathery. Small ones are oblong to ovate-lanceolate, but well-grown ones are narrow-lanceolate to linear. The petiole is clear and has narrow wings. The veins are connected in a net shape with irregular free veins. The sporangia are small and circular (the Japanese name nukaboshi means bran-like sporangia), and scattered on the underside of the leaves.
