...Distributed from the Kanto region westward, to Shikoku and Kyushu. The genus Pseudopyxis is endemic to Japan, along with the white-flowered genus P. heterophylla (Miq.) Maxim. Ophiorrhiza japonica Blume means the genus Ophiorrhiza from Satsuma, named after its similar appearance, but there is no relation between the two, and the lower part of the stem remains woody.
