Nukabo - Nukabo

Japanese: ヌカボ - ぬかぼ
Nukabo - Nukabo

A perennial grass of the grass family (APG classification: Poaceae). The culm is slightly bushy, about 50 cm tall, and produces new seedlings at the base for the following year. From April to July, a panicle inflorescence is produced at the top of the culm. The branches of the inflorescence are of different lengths, pseudo-whorled, and spikelets form almost at the base. The inflorescence opens during the flowering season, and becomes upright after flowering. The spikelet is 1.5 to 1.7 mm long and contains one floret. The glume is shorter than the glume and has no awn. It commonly grows in hilly areas throughout Japan, and is also distributed in the Korean Peninsula, China, and high mountains of the Philippines. The name comes from the fact that the spikelets are small and fine, like bran. The basic species is Yamanukabo.
