An Iranian historian and man of letters. Born in Kufa, he served as a judge in Dinawar in western Iran for around 20 years before moving to Baghdad, where he taught until his later years and wrote over 20 books. His works cover a wide range of subjects, including "The Book of Knowledge," a general history up to the early Abbasid period, "The Book of Poets and Poets," a collection of essays, "The Source of Narratives," a collection of ancient poetry and prose, and "The Culture of the Scribe," which discusses writing style. He also wrote commentaries on the Quran and Hadith, and a collection of theological essays. [Isozaki Sadamoto]

イラン系の歴史家，文学者。クーファ生れ。イラン西部のディーナーワルで20年ほど裁判官を務めたのちバグダードに移り，晩年まで教職にあって二十数冊の著書を残した。アッバース朝初期までの概説史《知識の書》，評論集《詩と詩人の書》，古代からの詩文を集めた《物語の源泉》，文章作法を論じた《書記の教養》などのほかに，コーランやハディースの注釈書や神学論集もあり，著作内容は多面にわたっている。【磯崎定基】
