828‐889 An Iranian historian and man of letters. Born in Kufa, he served as a judge in Dinawar in western Iran for around 20 years before moving to Baghdad, where he taught until his later years and wrote over 20 books. His works cover a wide range of subjects, including "The Book of Knowledge," a general history up to the early Abbasid period, "The Book of Poets and Poets," a collection of essays, "The Source of Narratives," a collection of ancient poetry and prose, and "The Culture of the Scribe," which discusses writing style.
