Tsukioka [Hot Spring] - Tsukioka

Japanese: 月岡[温泉] - つきおか

This hot spring is located in Toyoura Town, Kitakanbara County, Niigata Prefecture. It accidentally erupted in 1917 while drilling an oil well. The spring is a saline hydrogen sulfide spring with a temperature of 52°C. It is a popular holiday destination with facilities such as an amusement park, the Hondayama promenade, famous for its azaleas, and a golf course, and in winter you can also enjoy skiing. There are over 30 inns and hotels. It is also close to the mansion of the Ichishima family, a wealthy farmer who became large landowners after developing new fields around Fukushimagata. It is about a 10-minute bus ride from Tsukioka Station on the Uetsu Main Line. [Isobe Toshimasa]

新潟県北蒲原（きたかんばら）郡豊浦町にある温泉。1917年石油井掘削中に偶然噴湯した。泉質は含食塩硫化水素泉で，泉温52℃。遊園地やツツジの名所本田山遊歩道，ゴルフ場などの施設も整備されており，冬はスキーも楽しめる行楽地である。30軒余の旅館，ホテルがある。福島潟周辺の新田開発により大地主化した豪農市島家の邸宅にも近い。羽越本線月岡駅からバスで約10分。【磯部利貞】
