Togane [city] - Tougane

Japanese: 東金[市] - とうがね

A city in central Chiba Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It occupies the center of the Kujukuri Plain, and its western part is part of the Shimousa Plateau. The city center was the location of Tokugawa Ieyasu's Togane Palace, and flourished as the center of a market town and a home-based wholesale industry for Kazusa cotton. The Togane Line and Chiba Togane Road run through the city, making it the commercial center of the plains. Housing and industrial complexes are also being developed. In rural areas, there is a trend toward diversification, including rice, vegetables, fruit trees, gardening, and livestock farming. There is Lake Yatsuru, a famous cherry blossom spot, and Togane Onsen. The city suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. 89.12 ^km2 . Population: 61,751 (2010).

千葉県中部の市。1954年市制。九十九里平野中央部を占め，西部は下総(しもうさ)台地の一部。中心市街は徳川家康の東金御殿所在地，市場町，上総(かずさ)木綿の問屋制家内工業の中心地として栄えた。東金線，千葉東金道路が通じ，平野の商業中心をなす。また宅地化，工場団地の開発も進んでいる。農村部では米，野菜，果樹，植木，畜産など多角化の傾向がみられる。桜の名所八鶴湖，東金温泉がある。東日本大震災で，市内において被害が発生。89.12km²。６万1751人（2010）。
