Nuremberg Trials - Nuremberg Trials
The International Military Tribunal, established on the basis of the Allied Powers Agreement of August 8, 1945, tried 24 German wartime leaders. Plaintiffs included the UK, the US, France, the USSR, and 15 other countries. The trial began in Nuremberg on November 20 of the same year. The charges were divided into "crimes against peace," "war crimes," "crimes against humanity," and "conspiracy," and Germany's criminal acts during World War II were pursued. Verdict was handed down on October 1, 1946. Twelve people, including Keitel, Goering, Streicher, Jodl, and Ribbentrop (Bormann escaped), were sentenced to death by hanging, three others were given life sentences, four were given fixed-term sentences, and three were found not guilty. It is considered one of the two major international military tribunals, along with the Tokyo Trials.
