Wen Ji's Return to the Han Dynasty (English: Wen Ji Gui Han Tú)

Japanese: 文姫帰漢図 - ぶんききかんず（英語表記）Wén jī guī Hàn tú

A painting title for historical figures in China. In 196 (Jian'an 1), the Right Wise King of the Southern Xiongnu, acting on the wishes of Cao Cao of Wei, transferred Emperor Xian of the Later Han to Xu and placed him under Cao Cao's protection before returning to China. During this time, he kidnapped the only daughter of the scholar Cai Yong, Cai Yan (whose courtesy name was Wenji), and carried her off to Hu to become the wife of the Left Wise King. Wenji became the mother of two children, and 12 years later was bought back by Cao Cao, a friend of Cai Yong, and returned to Luoyang in 208. This painting is called "Eighteen Pictures of Hu Ji" because it is a narrative painting of 18 scenes based on 18 sections of a poem by Liu Shang of the Tang dynasty, centering on the sadness of separation, and there are also 18 scenes said to have been created by Wenji herself.

中国の故事人物画の画題。196年(建安1)南匈奴の右賢王は魏の曹操の意を受けて後漢の献帝を許に移して曹操の保護下におき，帰国した。このとき大学者蔡邕（さいよう）の一人娘蔡琰（さいえん）(字は文姫)を奪って胡地に連れ去り，左賢王の妻とした。文姫は2児の母となり，12年後，蔡邕の友人曹操によって買い戻され，208年洛陽の土を再び踏んだ。この図を一に《胡笳十八拍図》というのは，離別の悲しみを中心に唐の劉商の歌った詩18段にもとづき，18場の物語絵に仕立てたからで，別に文姫の自作と伝える18拍もある。
