Born November 5, 1943 in Fort Sheridan, Illinois
[Died] July 27, 2017. Kentucky. American playwright and actor. Real name Samuel Shepard Rogers. He moved to New York in 1963 and began his career as a playwright in off-off-Broadway productions. He quickly gained attention for his lines that evoked poetic images and his innovative theatrical structures. His early representative works include Red Cross (1966) and The Tooth of Crime (1972). Since the late 1970s, his tendency towards realism has strengthened, and many of his works, such as the Pulitzer Prize-winning Buried Child (1978) and Fool for Love (1985), have focused on the love and hate of families and between men and women. In later years, he appeared in and produced many films, including The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) and Out of the Furnace (2013).
