Sphaeroma retrolaevis

...There are many species of Sphaeromatidae, such as Gnorimosphaeroma oregonensis and Dynoides dentisinus , which are often found under stones near the shoreline, and Cymodoce japonica and Holotelson tuberculatus , which are often found in seaweed, but some are free-living. Sphaeroma retrolaevis bores into wood underwater, while S. sieboldii bores into tuff as well as wood. Tecticeps japonicus , a member of this family, is found in great abundance along the coast of Hokkaido, where it is dried in the sun and used as fertilizer.
