French novelist. He worked as an engineer, wrote novels, poems, and plays, and was also known as a jazz trumpeter. His representative work is Les Bubbles du Jours (1947), which beautifully balances anger at the absurdity of life with unbridled fantasy, and is his style. He also wrote a work in the style of American popular novels, Spit on the Grave (1946), under the pen name Vernon Sullivan.

フランスの小説家。エンジニアを職とするかたわら小説，詩，戯曲を書き，ジャズ・トランペット奏者としても知られていた。代表作に《日々の泡》（1947年）があり，人生の不条理に対する怒りと奔放な幻想がみごとに調和され，それが彼の作風となっている。またバーノン・サリバンの筆名でアメリカ大衆小説風の作品《墓に唾をかけろ》（1946年）がある。
