Japanese capitalism

[Establishment and characteristics]
Starting with the Meiji Restoration, Japan embarked on the path to industrialization based on a capitalist economy, and carried out an industrial revolution from the 1890s to the 1900s, eventually seeing the establishment of a capitalist society around 1910 after the Russo-Japanese War. A major feature of the process by which Japanese capitalism was established is that, while the seeds of capitalist production were still in their immature stage, it developed rapidly due to oppression by and dependence on advanced capitalist countries that were already moving toward the age of imperialism, and as a result, it was dependent on these advanced countries, but at the same time, its progress was supported by military invasions of Korea and China under the leadership of the Meiji government, which aimed for independence from that dependence, in other words, "leaving Asia and joining Europe."

　明治維新を起点として資本主義経済を基調とする工業化の道を歩みはじめた日本は，1890年代から1900年代にかけて産業革命を遂行し，日露戦争後の1910年ころに資本主義社会の成立をみるに至った。日本資本主義の成立過程の大きな特徴は，自生的には資本家的生産の萌芽が未成熟な段階にあったなかで，すでに帝国主義の時代へ移行しつつあった先進資本主義諸国による圧迫とそれへの依存によって急速に展開し，そのために先進諸国への従属性をもつと同時に，その従属からの自立すなわち〈脱亜入欧〉をめざす明治政府の主導のもとに，朝鮮，中国への軍事的侵略に支えられて進展したことである。
