One of the long-term credit banks. Established in 1902 under the Industrial Bank of Japan Act as a special bank with the purpose of providing long-term industrial financing through bond issuance and promoting the introduction of foreign capital. Converted to a commercial bank in 1950, and became a long-term credit bank under the Long-Term Credit Bank Act in 1952. Provides long-term financing mainly through bond issuance. Forms a business partnership with Nomura Securities (now Nomura Holdings) in the areas of pension asset management and derivatives. Also, in 1998, formed a full business partnership with The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company. In March 1999, when there were concerns about a financial crisis, the government introduced 600 billion yen in public funds.
