Often used in conjunction with (2) and (1). ※Shinkeishu (c. 1468) “The spring mountain breeze stirs the cherry blossoms on their green leaves, even as the dewy moon shines.”② A river with cherry blossoms along the river. ※Kyōka, Tokuwaka Gomanzaishū (1785) IV “The cherry blossoms on the river branches are closed until the ice settles, and the first flowers of the waves do not open.”③ (from ①) A pattern on clothing, etc., with cherry blossoms scattered in flowing water. ※Sakehon, Tsugen Sori (1787) IV “What is the New Year’s clothing worn by the large Kanaya?” “〈Omitted〉 The Tamaya on the corner is a peony. The pine tree is the Sakuragawa River.”④ Another name for the plant “Gen no Shoko (present proof).” [Jutei Honsho Gangmoku Keimo (1847)]⑤ Abbreviation of "Sakuragawa (Sakuragawa school)". ※Miscellaneous Hai, Yanagi Taru-97 (1828) "Sakuragawa sells the flow of flowers."⑥ During the Edo period, this famous sake was sold by a mountain hut in Udagawa-cho, Shiba, Edo. Around the Tenpo era (1830-44), it was also sold by a mountain hut in Namiki- cho, Asakusa. ※Kakushihon, Wagojin (1823-44) 2 "This morning I saved Sakuragawa (Sakuragawa) from the mountain hut, but I have fish to eat."[2][1] Refers to the upper reaches of the Hino River (Gamo River) that flows through the southern part of Shiga Prefecture. Sakuragawa River. According to one theory, it also refers to the Sakuragawa (Tsukuba River) in Ibaraki Prefecture. Utamakura. *Gosen (around 951-953), Spring, Volume 107: "When spring comes, the waves of the cherry blossoms flow more smoothly than usual (Ki no Tsurayuki)" [2] A river that flowed through Minato Ward, Tokyo. It is said that it flowed from Akasaka to the vicinity of Atagoyama and merged with Furukawa (Akabane River). [3] A river that flows through the southwestern part of Ibaraki Prefecture. It flows south along the western foot of the Tsukuba Mountains, then flows southeast and empties into Lake Kasumigaura in Tsuchiura City. [1] 〘名〙① 桜の花びらを一面に浮かべている川。多く(二)(一)と掛けて用いる。※心敬集(1468頃)「桜がはあさけの露の月をだに青葉にさそふ春の山かぜ」② 川ぞいに桜の咲く川。※狂歌・徳和歌後万載集(1785)四「さくら川枝も氷のはるまではとぢてひらかぬ波のはつ花」③ (①より) 衣服の模様などで、流水に桜の散っているさまのもの。※洒落本・通言総籬(1787)一「『大かなやの正月の仕着せはなんだっけの』『〈略〉角の玉屋はぼたんさ。松がねやがさくら川さ』」④ 植物「げんのしょうこ(現証拠)」の異名。〔重訂本草綱目啓蒙(1847)〕⑤ 「さくらがわは(桜川派)」の略。※雑俳・柳多留‐九七(1828)「花に着た流れを売るは桜川」⑥ 江戸時代、江戸芝宇田川町の山屋から販売されていた銘酒。天保(一八三〇‐四四)頃には浅草並木町の山屋からも販売。※滑稽本・和合人(1823‐44)二「今朝山屋の桜川(サクラガハ)を取って置いたが肴(さかな)があるめへ」[2][一] 滋賀県南部を流れる日野川(蒲生川)の上流をいう。佐久良川。一説に茨城県桜川(筑波川)のこととも。歌枕。※後撰(951‐953頃)春下・一〇七「常よりも春べになれば桜河花の浪こそまなくよすらめ〈紀貫之〉」[二] 東京都港区を流れていた川。赤坂方面から愛宕山付近を流れて、古川(赤羽川)に合流していたという。[三] 茨城県の南西部を流れる川。筑波山地の西側のふもとを南流し、のち東南流して土浦市で霞ケ浦に注ぐ。上流の磯辺は謡曲「桜川」の舞台で、古くからサクラの名所。筑波川。[四] 謡曲。四番目物。各流。世阿彌作。母の貧窮をみかねて人買いにわが身を売った桜子は、三年後の春に常陸国(茨城県)桜川で、狂女となってわが子の行方をさがしている母に再会する。[五] 俳諧撰集。内藤風虎編。北村季吟序、松山玖也跋。延宝二年(一六七四)成立。四季類題別に作者数八一四名、計七〇三六句を収めた発句集。
