Emperor Gosakuramachi
1740-1813 The 117th Emperor of the mid-Edo period. Reigned 1762-71*.
Born on August 3, 1720. The second daughter of Emperor Sakuramachi. Her mother was Fujiwara Ieko (Seikimon'in). She was Emperor Momozono's half-sister. After Emperor Momozono's death, she succeeded the throne because the Crown Prince Hidehito (later Emperor Go-Momozono) was still a child. She was the last female emperor. During her reign, the Meiwa Incident occurred, in which the shogunate suppressed the pro-imperial family. After abdicating, she trained the two emperors Go-Momozono and Kokaku. She loved waka poetry and Chinese classics. She died on November 2, 1810 (leap year). She was 74 years old. Her grave is in Tsukinowa no Misasagi (Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City). Her childhood names were Isanomiya and Akenomiya. Her given name was Toshiko. His works include "Affairs during the Imperial Restrictions" and "Gosakuramachi-in Shinki."

元文5年8月3日生まれ。桜町天皇の第2皇女。母は藤原舎子(いえこ)(青綺門院)。桃園天皇の異母姉。桃園天皇の死後,皇嗣英仁(ひでひと)親王(のちの後桃園天皇)が幼少だったため皇位をついだ。最後の女帝。在位中,幕府による尊王家弾圧の明和事件がおきた。譲位後は後桃園・光格の2天皇を訓育。和歌や漢学をこのんだ。文化10年閏(うるう)11月2日死去。74歳。墓所は月輪陵(つきのわのみささぎ)(京都市東山区)。幼称は以茶(いさの)宮,緋(あけの)宮。諱(いみな)は智子(としこ)。著作に「禁中年中の事」「後桜町院宸記(しんき)」など。
