1350‐1419 A Dominican priest from Valencia in eastern Spain, he was a saint in the Catholic Church. He supported Pope Clement VII in Avignon and became confessor to Pope Benedict XIII. He preached against heresy in France and Italy, and was an eloquent preacher amid the growing anti-Semitic sentiment in the Iberian countries at the time. He also participated in domestic and international politics due to his knowledge and popularity, and cast his vote for the future King Ferdinand I at the Council of Caspe (1412), which selected the successor to the throne of the United Kingdom of Aragon.
