Order: Frogs, Family: Ranidae. Body length: about 6 cm. Among Japanese frogs, this species can be identified by its relatively thin snout and the ridges on both sides of its back that do not bend outward behind the eardrum. It is found in abundance in the plains and hills of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and lays eggs in rice paddies in early spring.
