Order: Frogs, Family: Ranidae. Body length: about 6 cm. Among Japanese frogs, this species can be identified by its relatively thin snout and the ridges on both sides of its back that do not bend outward behind the eardrum. It is found in abundance in the plains and hills of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and lays eggs in rice paddies in early spring.

カエル目アカガエル科。体長 6cm内外。日本のアカガエル類のうちでは吻端部が比較的細く，背の両側の隆条が鼓膜のうしろで外側へ曲っていないことによって識別できる。本州，四国，九州などの平地や丘陵地に多く，早春，水田などに産卵する。
