...While his views on disease and treatment methods were based mainly on Hippocrates, Galen focused on theorizing medicine and giving it a systematic academic atmosphere, based on Aristotle's teleological view of life. The German medical historian Max Neuburger (1868-1955) commented that if Hippocrates is called the "father of the medical art," then Galen is the "father of medicine." However, in modern times, Galen was criticized for pursuing theoretical consistency too much and for being teleological.
