1610‐73 (Keicho 15‐Kanbun 13) A haiku poet of the early Edo period. His family name was Yasuhara, given name was Masaakira, and he was commonly known as Hikozaemon. His other names were Ichinoken and Fuhaishi. He was from Kyoto. He ran a paper business. His shop name was Kagiya. He studied at Teitoku's private school in 1625 (Kan'ei 2) at the age of 15, and apparently began haiku at around the age of 18. Because he was ambitious and had a strong sense of pride, he often came into conflict with other members of his school. In order to vent his anger at the criticism he received for his self-annotated 100-verse poem, Haikai no Chu (1632), in memory of his deceased mother, he published Himuromori (1646) in which he criticized Shigeyori's Kefukigusa (1645). He also anonymously published Gojo Hyakuku (1663), in which he harshly criticized his fellow students while praising himself. In a New Year's poem written in 1654 (Shoo 3), the year after Teitoku's death, he pretended to be a direct successor to Teitoku, incurring public ire.
