Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.

Japanese: 日産自動車[株] - にっさんじどうしゃ
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
It is the second largest automobile manufacturer in Japan and the sixth largest in the world in terms of sales (2005). Founded in 1933 as an automobile manufacturer, it changed its name to its current one the following year. In 1966 it merged with Prince Motor Company. It also produces textile machinery and aerospace equipment. In 1968 it formed a business partnership with Fuji Heavy Industries (mainly small passenger cars and light vehicles), and has various auto body and parts-related companies under its umbrella, including Aichi Machine Industry (engines) and Nissan Shatai (small passenger cars). It has partnered with Ford Motor Company of the US and Volkswagen of Germany, and produces locally in the US and the UK. However, the business deteriorated in the 1990s due to the continuing recession and failure to develop new cars. In 1999, the company decided to enter into a capital alliance with Renault of France and began to work on reconstruction. In October, the company announced the "Nissan Revival Plan," which included the closure of four factories and the reduction of 21,000 group employees. Under President Ghosn, the company achieved its goals by the end of fiscal 2001, and posted its highest operating profit ever. The head office is in Tokyo, and the factory is in Oppama, Yokosuka City, and other locations. Hit by the global recession and the strong yen in 2008, the company saw a large drop in sales and a net loss of 233.7 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 2009. In the fiscal year ending December 2009, the company sold 3.51 million vehicles, and in the fiscal year ending March 2011, sales improved to 8.773 trillion yen and net income to 319.2 billion yen. Sales breakdown (%): Automotive business 94%, sales finance business 6. Overseas sales ratio 79%.
