Galidia elegans (English spelling)

...the yellow mongoose, Cynictis penicillata (southern Africa), which lives in underground holes with several dozen of individuals, and the meerkat, Suricata suricatta (southern Africa). Most species are terrestrial, but some are adept tree climbers, such as the ring-tailed mongoose, Galidia elegans (Madagascar), which climbs trees regularly. Most are diurnal, but some, such as the largest species, the white-tailed mongoose, Ichneumia albicauda (southern Arabian Peninsula and sub-Saharan Africa), are nocturnal.
