An area facing the west bay of Nanao Bay in the central part of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. Former town name. In 1954, the villages of Nishigishi, Uwauchi, Kumaki, Nakajima, Toyokawa, and Kasashiho merged to form a town. In October 2004, it merged with the former Nanao City, Tazuruhama Town, and Notojima Town to form the new city of Nanao. Rice is the main crop, but the area also cultivates miscellaneous grains, vegetables, and fruits, produces shiitake mushrooms, and oyster farming is thriving along the coast. In recent years, livestock farming such as dairy cattle, beef cattle, and chicken farming has also been carried out. Efforts are being made to promote the synthetic fiber and electronics industries. The entire bay area belongs to the Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park. In front of the shrine in the center is Kumagafutoarakashihiko Shrine (Kumako Shrine), and the "Kumako 20th Day Festival Frame Flag Event" (→Okumako Festival) held at the annual festival on September 20th is a nationally designated intangible folk cultural asset.NakajimaNakajimaSource: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
