...A Confucian scholar of the late Edo period. He belonged to the school of historical research. His given name was Motobi, his pen name was Junkei, his common name was Kiyoshi, and his pen name was Gyoson. He was born in Kitashimizu Village, Musa County, Kazusa Province, and studied under Ota Kinjo in Edo. He was later invited to the Sakura Domain, and in 1857 (Ansei 4) was appointed professor of Confucianism at the Shogunate's Medical School. His studies were centered on the study of the Classics, and he commented and supplemented various texts by referring to ancient commentaries and commentaries and the Classics and History Collections, and was known for his precise research. He has written over 30 books, including "The Meaning of Classical Studies, Ancient Readings," "The Story of a Hufu-dan," and "Fishing Villages."
