Goeldi's frog

Japanese: ゲルジアマガエル(英語表記)Goeldi’s frog
Goeldi's frog
A species of tree frog in which the female protects eggs by carrying them on her back (illustration). Found in Brazil, this small tree frog is 4-5 cm long and has well-developed suckers on each of its four fingers, and is morphologically no different from other tree frogs. Its body is brownish with a yellowish-white stripe running behind its eyes. The female has a transparent, dish-shaped fold of raised skin on her back, into which she places about 20-26 eggs. The eggs are pale yellow in color, rich in yolk, and large, about 4 mm in diameter, and the developmental state of the embryos can be seen through the jelly membrane.
