This mountain is located on the border between Niseko Town and Kutchan Town in the Shiribeshi Regional Subprefectural Bureau in southwest Hokkaido. It is the main peak of the Niseko Annupuri volcanic group, with an elevation of 1,308 meters. It faces Mt. Yotei to the east across the Shiribetsu River. The name of the mountain comes from the Ainu word Nisekoan-nupuri, which means "mountain facing a cliff." It was formed in the middle Pleistocene (Pleistocene) and is made of pyroxene andesite lava and debris. At an elevation of 700 to 800 meters, it forms a plateau-like lava flow deposit. The mountainside is covered with Japanese stone pines, and above that with bamboo grass, and there are many alpine plants. It receives a lot of snow in winter, and is famous as a mecca for skiing. Nearby are ski resorts such as Niseko Annupuri and Niseko International Hirafu, and it is known as the St. Moritz of the Orient. In the summer, it is bustling with people going hiking and mountain climbing, and there are Hirafu Onsen on the eastern foot of the mountain and Niseko Goshiki Onsen on the western foot of the mountain. 北海道南西部、後志(しりべし)総合振興局管内のニセコ町と倶知安町(くっちゃんちょう)との境界にある山。ニセコアンヌプリ火山群の主峰で、標高1308メートル。尻別(しりべつ)川を挟んで東の羊蹄(ようてい)山と相対す。山名はアイヌ語のニセイコアン・ヌプリ（断崖(だんがい)に向かってある山）の意。更新世（洪積世）中期に形成されたもので、輝石安山岩の溶岩、砕屑(さいせつ)物からなる。標高700～800メートルの所は台地状の溶岩流堆積(たいせき)面となっている。山腹はハイマツ、その上はササで覆われ、高山植物も多い。冬は積雪量が多く、スキーのメッカとして有名。付近にはニセコアンヌプリ、ニセコ国際ひらふなどのスキー場があり、東洋のサン・モリッツと称される。夏は登山やハイキングなどでにぎわい、東麓(とうろく)にひらふ温泉、西麓にニセコ五色温泉(にせこごしきおんせん)がある。ニセコ積丹小樽(しゃこたんおたる)海岸国定公園域。
