The diary of Fujiwara no Yukinari. It is also called "Yukinari Kyoki" and "Gonki" because he was Gon Dainagon. It is a diary covering the 20 years from 991 to 1011 (Shoreki 2 to Kanko 8), but the missing section is from 996 (Chotoku 2). Yukinari served as a benkan (official official) and Kurodono-to (chief of the Chamberlain), and it details his life as a politician at the Imperial Court. It is also very detailed about ceremonies, and there are entries such as "It is in the separate records," which suggests that there may have been separate records of ceremonies. Yukinari was trusted by Emperor Ichijo, and the diary details his close relationship with Fujiwara no Michinaga, making it an important diary for examining the political history of the regents. Yukinari also had excellent handwriting and was commissioned to copy many books, making him a valuable historical resource for learning about court ceremonies, the arts and sciences, and customs of the Heian period. The oldest copy is the 22-volume Fushiminomiya edition, copied in the Kamakura period by the Imperial Household Agency's Archives and Mausolea Department. It is included in the "Augmented Shiryo Taisei" and "Shiryo Sanshu." [Yutaka Yamanaka] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
