…In recent years, bronze swords have been excavated from two ruins of the Majiayao and Maqang type in Gansu Province, which date back to the late Yangshao culture. They are blunt objects reminiscent of stone knives. From the middle of the Yin Dynasty onwards, swords with a straight spine similar to a kitchen knife, swords with a curved blade that curves into an S-shape and a bow-like neck, and ring-headed swords with a ring on the pommel, an arched spine and a blade that is slightly S-shaped, have been found. All of these are small knives less than 30 cm long. The first two swords have wooden handles on the stalks, decorative spines, and patterns such as dragons, and were used for ceremonies. …

…近年になって，仰韶（ぎようしよう）文化の晩期にあたる甘粛省の馬家窯（ばかよう），馬廠（ばしよう）類型の二つの遺址から青銅刀が出土したが，それは石刀を思わせる鈍器のようなものである。殷代の中期以降になると，庖丁に似て脊（むね∥せき）のまっすぐなもの，湾脊（わんせき）で刃がS字状にかなり屈曲し刀首が船舳になったもの，柄頭に環をつけ，弧形の脊に刃はややゆるくS字状をなす環頭刀(環柄刀，環首刀)などがみられ，いずれも全長30cmに満たない小刀である。前2者の刀は，茎（なかご）に木片の柄をつけ刀脊に装飾があったり，竜紋などの文様がほどこされたりして，儀式用に使用された。…
