Nijinska (English spelling)
Born: January 8, 1891 in Minsk
[Died] February 22, 1972, Los Angeles. Polish-Russian dancer and choreographer. Sister of V. Nijinsky. Studied at the Imperial Choreographic School in St. Petersburg. In 1909, she joined S. Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, for which she choreographed an adaptation of "The Sleeping Beauty" as "The Marriage of Aurora" in 1921, as well as "The Fox" (1922), "The Wedding" (1923), and "The Blue Train" (1924). From 1932 to 1935, she formed her own dance company in Paris. After serving as artistic director of the Polish Ballet, she moved to the United States in 1938 and lived in California, where she provided works for the American Ballet Theater, Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo, and the Buenos Aires Company Colon, and also devoted herself to training young dancers.

ポーランド系ロシア人の舞踊家,振付師。 V.ニジンスキーの妹。ペテルブルグの帝室舞踊学校に学ぶ。 1909年 S.ディアギレフのバレエ・リュスの一員となり,同バレエ団のために 21年『眠れる森の美女』を『オーロラ姫の結婚』として改作振付したのをはじめ,『狐』 (1922) ,『結婚』 (23) ,『青い汽車』 (24) などを振付けた。 32~35年パリに自身の舞踊団を組織。ポーランド・バレエの芸術監督を経て 38年アメリカに渡り,以後カリフォルニアに住んで,アメリカン・バレエ・シアター,バレエ・リュス・ド・モンテカルロ,ブエノスアイレスのコロン舞踊団などに作品を提供し,また子弟の養成にも力を注いだ。
