...Although much is unknown about his life and works, according to the biographies compiled by the sect, he was born in 1478 to a Brahmin family near Delhi, and in his youth he heard an exposition of the Bhagavata Purana by Ballabha, and entered the path of Krishna faith. He was welcomed as a hymn-singer at the Srinath Temple, which Ballabha opened in Gokul near Brindavan, and left behind many emotional hymns. He died on the shores of a lake near the temple in 1584. A large number of lyric short poems attributed to him are collected in the Sur Sāgar, but the majority of them were composed as hymns to be chanted at the Srinath Temple. Poems full of love depicting Lord Vishnu incarnated as Krishna and playing as an innocent child through the eyes of his mother Yashoda, and love poems depicting the adoration of Krishna as a young man by his future wife Radha and the gopikas around him, are beloved to this day, and their success in expressing bhakti simply and visually had a great influence on later thought and literature. *Some of the terminology that mentions "Sūr Sāgar" is listed below.
