Born June 30, 1966. Brooklyn, New York. American professional boxer. Real name Michael Gerald Tyson. The youngest ever world heavyweight champion. As a child, he joined a gang and was sent to a juvenile detention center in 1978. There, he discovered boxing and began training under trainer Cus D'Amato, who later became his guardian. He had a record of 24 wins and 3 losses as an amateur, and turned professional in 1985. The following year, in 1986, he defeated Trevor Berbick by technical knockout in the second round to become the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion. In 1987, he won the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF), earning a triple crown. He defended his title 10 times after that. After D'Amato's death, he teamed up with promoter Don King. In 1990, he lost the world heavyweight title to James Douglas in a match. In 1991, he was found guilty of rape, but was released on parole in 1995 and returned to boxing. In 1996, he regained the WBC and WBA titles, but lost to Evander Holyfield, losing the WBA title and suffering his second defeat as a professional boxer. In 1997, he challenged Holyfield for a rematch, but was disqualified for biting his opponent's ear twice and was stripped of his boxing license. He returned in 1999, but had one problem after another. In 2002, he faced WBC and IBF double champion Lennox Lewis, but lost.
