Siebenburg

...In Hungarian it is called Erdély, which has the same meaning, and the Romanians also use the derived name Ardeal in conjunction with Transylvania. The Germans call it Siebenbürgen (meaning Seven Burgs). There are various theories about what the Seven Burgs meant, but this name was used from the 13th century onwards, and initially only referred to the area under the control of German colonists, but later came to be used synonymously with the whole of Transylvania.
