Rabbit Daisy - Rabbit Daisy

A perennial plant of the Asteraceae family (APG classification: Asteraceae). It has an upright stem of 20-30 cm and opposite leaves. It was named after the fact that the opposite leaves, which unfold as the snow melts, look like rabbit ears. It is also called Kingulma because it produces bright yellow flowers about 5 cm in diameter at the top of the stem in July and August. The beautiful flowers are often grown in pots for decoration. Sphagnum moss is a good soil to use for planting. It is found in Honshu north of the Chubu region, Hokkaido, the Kuril Islands, and the Aleutian Islands. In the north, it grows on plain grasslands, but in Honshu, it grows in alpine grasslands.

キク科（APG分類：キク科）の多年草。茎は20～30センチメートルで直立し、対生葉をつける。雪解けとともに展開する対生葉がウサギの耳にみえるところから名がつけられた。また、7～8月、茎頂に直径約5センチメートルの鮮黄色の花をつけるところからキングルマともよばれる。花が美しいので鉢植えにして観賞される。植土はミズゴケがよい。中部地方以北の本州、北海道、千島、アリューシャン列島に分布する。北方の地では平地の草原に生えるが、本州では高山の草地に生える。
