…He made some conjectures about more general cases, especially about an unramified abelian extension K of k whose Galois group is isomorphic to the ideal class group of k , and whose decomposition of a prime ideal of k in K is determined by the ideal class of k to which the prime ideal belongs. He named this the class field of k . These conjectures were proved by P. Furtwängler (1869-1940), but Teiji Takagi extended the definition of ideal class group and class field to construct a theory of general relative abelian extensions that includes these results as special cases, making class field theory more natural and applicable. Furthermore, E. Artin showed that the isomorphism between ideal class groups and Galois groups is given by something called the Artin map. …
