It is also called the Book of Tobias. It is one of the Apocrypha of the Old Testament. It is included in the Septuagint (Greek translation) and the Vulgate. There are many theories about the date of its writing, ranging from 350 BC to 138 AD, but it is probably written around 170-150 BC. It is believed to have been written in Antioch, Asia Minor, Rome, or the Jewish community of the Diaspora in Alexandria. The book tells the story of Tobit, who became blind despite good deeds such as burying his murdered comrades, his relative's daughter Sarah, whose seven husbands were killed by the devil on her wedding night, Tobias, his son who went to Sarah at his father's command and happily married her with the help of the angel Raphael, and Tobit's recovery of his eyesight. It also recommends burying the dead, the law of bad marriages, respect for parents, and giving alms.
