The Kanmu Heishi clan. They descended from Prince Takamune, the son of Prince Kuzuhara, son of Emperor Kanmu, and flourished as the Taira clan of nobles towards the end of the Heian period. During the period of the Northern and Southern Courts, councillor Yukitoki took the family name Nishinotoin, after the family's residence. After that, in 1566 (Eiroku 9), when Tokito died, there was no heir and the family line died out for a time, but in 1575 (Tensho 3), Kawabata Kintora took over the family name, taking the name Tokimichi, and later changing his name to Tokiyoshi. Tokiyoshi and his son Tokinao were known for their poetry. As nobles, the family's status was half a family. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
