Mystery writer and physiologist. His real name was Takashi Hayashi. He was born in Kofu, Yamanashi Prefecture. He graduated from Keio University School of Medicine. At the recommendation of Unno Juza, he made his debut in 1934 with "Retinal Pulse Vision," a work on the theme of psychoanalysis (his pen name was a decomposition of the strokes in his real name). He later advocated a theory on the art of detective fiction, and published the long novel "The Fool of Life" (1936) as a work that made use of this idea, becoming the first mystery novel to win the Naoki Prize. The novel was highly praised for its fresh writing style and intellectual style, and greatly inspired the creative mystery literary world, which was in its growth period at the time. His other works include "Bungaku Shojo," which explores the psychology of women, the long novel "Waga Joshi Gakusei Jidai no Hanzai," and "Shingetsu" (1946), which won the first Mystery Writers Club Prize. As a physiologist, he became a professor at his alma mater in 1946 and gave lectures at physiological societies in Europe and the United States, becoming known worldwide. His major works include "Methodology of Conditioned Reflexes" (1940) and "Cerebral Physiology" (1944).
