Spirobranchus giganteus corniculatus

Japanese: イバラカンザシゴカイ（英語表記）Spirobranchus giganteus corniculatus

It is a member of the phylum Annelida, class Polychaeta, order Sedentary, family Serpulidae. It is 5-7cm long and has around 250 segments. At the end of its head is a cone-shaped gill crest that comes in beautiful colors such as red, blue, white and variegated. The operculum, formed by the modification of one of the gill filaments, has a trident-like protrusion. It lives in a thick calcareous tube made by the insect itself, and attaches itself to coral reefs and rocks. It is found from central Honshu southwards. (→Polychaeta, Porites coral)

環形動物門多毛綱定在目カンザシゴカイ科。体長5～7cm，体節数 250内外。頭端には全体が円錐状になった鰓冠があるが，この色彩に赤，青，白，斑入りなどがあって非常に美しい。鰓冠のうちの1本の鰓糸が変形した殻蓋には三叉の角のような突起がある。虫体自身がつくった厚い石灰質の棲管にすみ，サンゴ礁や岩に付着する。本州中部以南に分布する。 (→多毛類 ,　ハマサンゴ )
