He played an important role in the Rosicrucian movement in the early 17th century. He was one of the co-authors, if not the author, of three of the four major works of the Rosicrucians: The Universal Reformation of the World, The Rosicrucian Legends, and The Rosicrucian Creed. It is believed that the fantastic novel-like strange book The Chemical Marriage (1616) was almost certainly his work. He was the grandson of Jakob Andreae (1528-90), who compiled the Creed Concordat, which attempted to unify Protestant doctrine as a leader of the Lutheran sect.

17世紀初頭の薔薇（ばら）十字団運動に重要な役割をはたした人物。薔薇十字団の四大著作のうち《世界の普遍的改革》《薔薇十字の伝説》《薔薇十字の信条》の3著の著者ではないまでも共同執筆者の一人であり，幻想小説風の奇書《化学の結婚》(1616)は彼の作品であることがほぼ確実とみられている。ルター派の領袖としてプロテスタント内部の教義統一をはかった《和協信条》の編纂者ヤーコプ･アンドレーエJakob Andreae(1528‐90)の孫。
