〘Noun〙 A design painted and fired on the glaze of white-glazed porcelain using colored paints such as yellow, green, blue, purple, and black, with a red base. It was imported from China in the early Edo period and started in the Arita region of Hizen (Saga Prefecture). Five colors. Red painting. 〘名〙 白釉陶磁器の釉上に、赤絵の具を基調にして黄・緑・青・紫・黒などの色絵の具で文様を描き、焼き付けたもの。江戸初期に中国から輸入され、肥前（佐賀県）有田地方で始められた。五彩。赤絵。色絵。※俳諧・口真似草（1656）一「錦手の梅鉢ならし花の色〈正信〉」
