Ori-eboshi - Orieboshi

Japanese:
Ori-eboshi - Orieboshi
〘Noun〙 In contrast to a standing eboshi, this is an eboshi that is folded finely to make it easier to move around. As a headgear worn by samurai it is also called a samurai eboshi , with the top of the fold folded down to the right being called a right turn and folding down to the left being called a left turn. The folding method differs depending on the family, and examples include the Sasaki ori and Kyogoku ori. In the early modern period it was made formal by moving the kojigata (drawstring) holder for the topknot to the front, and since the shape of the front beckoning handle resembles a temple natto container it is called natto eboshi. Folded eboshi. ⇔ Standing eboshi. *Imakagami (1170), 6: "The sun was rising especially high, so the head of the ori eboshi was the first to be held out."
