Textiles such as costumes and furnishings used at the Imperial Court and among the nobility. Textiles introduced from the continent were refined in the Heian period to suit the nobility, and types include twill, floating fabrics, double-layered fabrics, brocade, indigo, kome, and gauze. Colors and patterns were sometimes determined by the nobles' family background and rank. The patterns are elegant and sophisticated, and today are known as yusoku patterns.
