A former town in Kuga County, eastern Yamaguchi Prefecture. Occupying the midstream of the Nishiki River, the main settlement of Hirose is near the confluence of the Nishiki River with its tributary, the Usa River, and is the terminus of the Nishiki River Railway. The town practices agriculture and forestry, and is known for its wasabi and konjac. There are many scenic spots, including Mount Jakuchi and Kitani Gorge in the West Chugoku Mountains Quasi-National Park. In March 2006, the town was incorporated into Iwakuni City along with the towns of Yu, Kuga, Shuto, Mikawa, Miwa, and Hongo in Kuga County. Area: 210.32 km2 .
