Nishiarie [town] - Nishiarie
This old town occupies the Arie River basin in the southern part of the Shimabara Peninsula in Minamitakaki District, Nagasaki Prefecture. The Shimabara Railway runs through it. It cultivates horticulture facilities and mandarin oranges. Its specialty is somen noodles. In March 2006, it merged with the towns of Katsusa, Kuchinotsu, Minamiarima, Kitaarima, Arie, Futsu, and Fukae in Minamitakaki District to become a city, Minamishimabara City. Area: 28.80 km2 . Population: 8,935 (2003).
